Book Review on Crush by Tracy Wolff

This is the second book in the Crave series by Tracy Wolff. It will contain spoilers for book one so be sure to have read the first book before reading this review. You can read my review for the first book here.

Synopsis

Everything feels off―especially me. I’ve returned to Katmere Academy, but I’m haunted by fragments of days I have no recollection of living and struggling to understand who, or what, I really am.

Just when I start to feel safe again, Hudson is back with a vengeance. He insists there are secrets I don’t know about, threatening to drive a wedge between Jaxon and me forever. But far worse enemies are at our doorstep.

The Circle is caught in a power play, and the Vampire Court is trying to drag me out of my world and into theirs. The only thing Hudson and Jaxon agree on is that leaving Katmere would mean my certain death.

And not only am I fighting for my life, but now everyone else’s is at stake―unless we can defeat an unspeakable evil. All I know is that saving the people I love is going to require sacrifice.

Maybe more than I’m able to give.

Review

This book took me a while to read but by the time I finished I was in love.

Like most main characters, Grace can be annoying at times but she still has so much confidence and is a total girl boss. She always sticks up for herself and never lets anyone get away with calling her a fragile little human. Plus, she’s not human anymore so they can’t even pull that card. After finding out at the end of the last book that she is a gargoyle, we see her slowly come to terms with that in this book and figure out how much power she really has.

The whole Jaxon and Hudson thing was very interesting in this book. I can’t really say much without spoiling it but there were a lot of surprising things that happened that were both good and bad. Jaxon had me gasping out loud for some of the things he said and I don’t even know what to say about Hudson except that there’s a lot we don’t know about him which makes him an interesting character.

The plot was a little boring. They came up with a plan in the beginning of the book and the rest of the book was carrying out that plan which is ok but I didn’t feel as much suspense as I would have liked. I did get a sense that the whole plot is a lot bigger than it seemed in the first book and there is so much we still don’t know.

The ending was action packed and fun to read. I loved all of the power and magic. The last line of the book had me so excited I was thinking about it for days imagining what was said after.

I love how short the chapters are and the chapter titles always make me laugh. I also really liked getting 2 chapters at the end from Hudson’s POV. This may be your classic vampire book but it has its fun little quirks and I so highly recommend reading this series.
