Synopsis

The shadows have risen, and the line is law.

All Bree wanted was to uncover the truth behind her mother’s death. So she infiltrated the Legendborn Order, a secret society descended from King Arthur’s knights—only to discover her own ancestral power. Now, Bree has become someone new:

A Medium. A Bloodcrafter. A Scion.

But the ancient war between demons and the Order is rising to a deadly peak. And Nick, the Legendborn boy Bree fell in love with, has been kidnapped.

Bree wants to fight, but the Regents who rule the Order won’t let her. To them, she is an unknown girl with unheard-of power, and as the living anchor for the spell that preserves the Legendborn cycle, she must be protected.

When the Regents reveal they will do whatever it takes to hide the war, Bree and her friends must go on the run to rescue Nick themselves. But enemies are everywhere, Bree’s powers are unpredictable and dangerous, and she can’t escape her growing attraction to Selwyn, the mage sworn to protect Nick until death.

If Bree has any hope of saving herself and the people she loves, she must learn to control her powers from the ancestors who wielded them first—without losing herself in the process.

Review

I loved this book SO much! It was just as good, if not better, than the first book. I am so sad to have finished it and I’m not looking forward to waiting for the 3rd and final book in this series.

The plot was typical for a second book in a trilogy. There was a lot of running around and not much big action but don’t be fooled, the pace was not slow at all.

I still found it very interesting to read. Especially since it was driven by the characters and I absolutely love all the characters. We were also introduced to a few new characters which was fun.

My favorite parts of the book were any scenes with Selwyn in it which just happened to be most of the book.

If we are being serious, then one of my favorite parts was Bree’s birthday. You obviously have to read the book to know what I’m talking about but I had a great time reading that scene and I know you will too. If you know, you know 😉

The ending was so hard to read but in a good way. It was almost as painful as the ending of Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare if you’ve read that book. Ok it wasn’t that bad but it was enough to remind me of it.

I found it really interesting how Deonn incorporated Bree’s ancestors into the story. Bree being a Medium and a Bloodcrafter makes the story that much more compelling.

Overall this book went way past my expectations. I would give it 6/5 stars if I could. Let’s hope Tracy Deonn writes fast because I need the next book right now!
