Synopsis

My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.

Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.
Which could spell death for us all.

Because Jaxon walled himself off for a reason. And now someone wants to wake a sleeping monster, and I’m wondering if I was brought here intentionally―as the bait.

Review

Crave by Tracy Wolff is a classic vampire story and even though it can be kind of predictable I still fell for it and loved this book. It is the first book in a 6 book series and I’m super excited to continue with the series.

I loved the setting of this book. I’ve never been to Alaska and I enjoyed learning a little about it. It made me want to visit Denali National Park. Although maybe in the summer when it’s not freezing.

The dark academia vibes of Katmere Academy were awesome. It was described as a castle that had no resemblance to a school at all. I would love to go to a school like that. Especially after hearing about the library.

The characters were great. Grace was a strong main character and Jaxon played the part of the vampire love interest well. Grace and Jaxon’s humor together was so funny. It was like they were just in their own little world. Although towards the end of the book Grace was a little too obsessed with Jaxon in my opinion.

I liked learning about all of Jaxon’s different abilities and what the shifters could do as well. Macy was an amazing best friend for Grace. She tried so hard to make Grace feel at home in a new environment. Flint was cool too even though his roll in the story made things complicated.

This book was very fast paced. It took place over the span of about a week and considering Grace was almost dying every other day it was easy to get through. The ending could have been spaced out a little better though.

I liked the mystery of the plot. You were slowly learning more and more about Jaxon and his history throughout the book and in turn learning why Grace was in so much danger. It did end on a cliffhanger that was really sad to read.

The 3 bonus chapters at the end of the book in Jaxon’s point of view were the best. I felt like I learned so much more about him and it was a really cool insight.

If you like books with vampires then you need to read this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be reading the sequel soon.
